New Study, Spring 2023!

This semester we’ll be studying The Church’s Story: A Survey of Church History, a video series produced by the Center for Christian Studies and taught by Dr. Keith Stanglin, a professor of historical theology and an excellent teacher.

Why are we studying church history?  Although we usually study a Biblical text, there are some great benefits to studying the history of the church:

  • Better understanding of doctrine
  • Better understanding of the various church traditions
  • Context for reading excellent works from early Christian sources
  • Focus on the long shared heritage of the universal church

Each week we’ll watch the video together and then have a guided discussion.  The videos range from 19-38 minutes, so we’ll always have time for a good discussion.  Zoom participants won’t miss anything!  You’ll be able to watch the video with the class and take part in the conversation.

All class participants will have password-based access to the videos outside of class, so you can watch them again or catch up on a missed lesson. AND, you’ll have access to all the Center for Christian Studies video series during this semester, so watch other series if you wish!  We will record the class discussion portion and post it on YouTube, so if you miss a class you can catch up on the discussion too.

Join us for an expert overview of church history combined with group discussion beginning Jan. 10 and 11!

Watch the complete study

Our fall series was At the Table with Jesus: The Table Ministry in the Gospel of Luke. You can watch the complete study now.  Spend time with Jesus, studying the passages in which Jesus is at the table - with strangers and friends, followers and enemies, the few and the many.  Jesus teaches in these moments and points us toward communion with God and with others.

All readings, study questions and videos are at www.subscribepage.com/tablewithjesusstudy, or click here

e plans now to join us for fresh, in-depth Bible Study the first Tuesday/Wednesday after Labor Day!

About the Refresh Series - Retreats for Women

We host a yearly half -day retreat to provide a time for refreshing women!

“It’s easy for women to focus on what seems to separate us: differences in age, parenting styles, career goals, or maybe even core beliefs about whether leggings can adequately serve as pants (the struggle is real, y’all). The reality, though, is that we have far more in common than we realize, and since Scripture shows us the blessing of friendships across generations, it’s high time we step out of our same-age, same-stage silos. Life is so much better that way. It’s time we open our eyes and see the people God has put in our lives—whether they’re behind us, beside us, or in front of us. It is such a gift to love one another, walk with one another, and soak up the blessings that flow across all generations.” – Sophie Hudson

Join the women of University Avenue Church of Christ and Longhorns for Christ as we spend a few hours together relaxing our bodies, resting our minds, and renewing our hearts as we REFRESH our spirit in a time of food, fellowship, teaching, and fun activities!
